ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Minyi Tan and I’m an illustrator based in New York City. I recently earned my BFA in Communication Design from Pratt Institute, where I focused on narrative illustration and picture book storytelling.

I really enjoy useing both traditional and digital media. I often use soft colors, decorative lines, and emotional composition to create storytelling illustration. I’m especially drawn to adapting classic literature and folktales through a poetic and visual lens.

When I’m not drawing, I love reading, sewing, and cooking comfort food. I’m currently seeking opportunities in children’s publishing and visual storytelling.

Thanks for visiting my portfolio!

Nightingale and Rose
Nightingale and Rose Finished workpromotion piece

1. Rest
A tender tribute to sacrifice, this piece reimagines the final moment of Wilde’s nightingale—nestled within the very rose she gave her life to create.

1. DreamsThis watercolor piece shows the boy’s love. The closed eye, kissed by a falling tear, invites viewers into a private, suspended world—where emotions blur like morning light through tall grass.

1. Last WhisperThe red rose has reached the end of its life. On her hand perches a golden nightingale, its presence soft yet solemn, like the echo of a farewell. Last Whisper captures the fragile moment between life and silence, where sacrifice has already been made, and all that remains is the quiet company of a song.

1. SublimateBathed in golden light, this piece captures the quiet transcendence of selfless love. A delicate figure cradled within a blooming rose evokes both vulnerability and transformation, as soft hands offer protection while the moonlight bears silent witness. Sublimate explores the moment when devotion turns into radiance—when sorrow, sacrifice, and beauty melt into light.
